Rogers Writer’s Trust Award finalist

The shortlist for the 2018 Rogers Writer’s Trust award was announced on 26 September, with Land Mammals and Sea Creatures (somehow!) taking one of the five spots. Other finalists include Esi Edugyan, Rawi Hage, Kathy Page and Craig Davidson.

I was camping in the Redwood National Forest in California with Brendan and Sulu, surrounded by thousand-year-old trees, no internet connection, when I started getting mysterious “congratulations” texts from friends. It was a couple of hours before I could steal a Wi-Fi connection from a gas station and find out what the fuss was about.

Feeling baffled, surprised, and like a complete imposter. However, very excited for a fun party in Toronto on 7 November. (yay!)
